THE RECHABITE ORDER.

HALF-YEARLY MEETING. The half-yearly meeting of the Tara- j naki sub-district was held at Hawera I on Easter Monday. Representatives were present from most of the tents in the sub-district. Morning and afternoon sessions were held. Bro. B. J. Clarke, of New Plymouth, was voted to the chair, and Bro. Geo. Kilvington, of Hawera, was appointed secretary. It was l-esolved that an endeavor be made to open new tents at Eltliam, Patea and Waitara, the Hawera tent to be responsible for opening Eltliam and Patea, and the New Plymouth tent for Waitara. It was suggested that the Inglewood and Stratford tents arrange to hold more frequent meetings. Notice was received from the Central District, Wellington, that a challenge shield was being procured from England | to' be open for competition by every tent in the district. The tent initiating the largest number of members during 1010 will be the winner of the shield for the first time, and will have the tent name engraved upon one of the plates j of the shield, which will be presented to the tent representatives at the general district meeting, to be held at Napier in February next. The shield will be held ibv the winners for two rears. It was suggested b v the sub-district meeting that this shield should be won on a percentage basis. It was reported' that new iuvp~ ;, e tents are to be opened at Tnglewood and Hawera. The juvenile tent at New Plvnmuth showed an increase of members, there being also a satisfactory increase in the 1 sie!k fund of tents in the sub-district. The medical arrangement of ill tents were reported to be most satisfactory, and the relations cordial and amicable. It was resolved that the district, be aslced if some arrangement oould nnt be arrived ftt with a view to amalgamating the Sons and Daughters of Temperance with the 'Rechahite Order. Much satisfaction was expressed at the rapid growth of the Ord°r during the last, few rears; the latest returns showing a membership of half n million. m'd an accumulation of funds amounting to two millions sterling. A vote of thanks was accorded B'-o. TOlvingt.on for the able manner in which he had performed the secretarial dutic®. and the usual vote of thanks the fhair brought to a close a very pleasant and profitable convention.
