NEW ZEALAND v. AUSTRALIA. By Telegraph.—Prest Association. Wellington.. Sunday. The second and final test match between the Australian and New Zealand teams commenced at Wellington on Saturday. Armstrong captained the Australians and D. Reese the New Zealand side, The former won the toss. The Australians' first innings was productive of 260 runs, the principal contributor being Smith, who made iO2, w.thout giving a chance. Brice, the ' only Wellington (representative, per- j formed well with the ball, securing five wickets for 70 runs. Two men I Bardsley and Hopkins'—were given l.b.w to him, a decision which, in the | latter instance, was unsatisfactory to , the batsman, who averred that he played the ball prior to it striking liis 1 leg. New Zealand continued its second innings in fine weather, Lusk and Reese, the not-out men, facing Whitty, twenty minutes' play' producing only five runs. None of the New Zealand batsmen, with the exception of Reese;' appeared to have much" confidence in themselves! Reese's innings' was a very lucky one, he being dropped on two occasions' behind the wickets. Sim's innings was patchy. The -last four batsmen-added 17 to the score. The Australians' bowling was good, each bowler having a good length and placing the field well so that no runs; were wasted.

Facy did extremely well with the ball, but was unlucky in having two chances dropped off h's bowling. Australia's second innings showed how runs could be got under practically any circumstances, providing batsrtien understand each other's .play. Their running between wickets was a revelation to local batsmen.

The Bnrdsley-Mayne partnership produced IGO runs. It was a ;rood exhibit'on of crisp, clean driving and neat cutting. Both batsmen's innings were practically chanceless. All the available bowling talent was brought on against them, but all efforts to shift the batsmen proved futile until Bennett took his third change with the wind His first ball proved fatal to the crack Sydney man, Boxshall taking a nice catch behind the "wickets. The batsmen had been scoring at the rate of two runs per minute. Whitty and Mavne played out time. Following are the scores:—
