Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Morey intend spending a three weeks' holiday at Rotorua.
Amongst the passengers to Auckland last night, per Ranuwa, were Messrs F. Watson, A. Hempton, and Mr and Mrs M. J. Stewart.
. Mrs. Heathcoat Livingston, of Hawera, died at a New Plymouth private hospital on Saturday morning, as the result of an operation. Mr. C. E. Finch, of Wellington, is at present temporarily in charge of the Hawera branch of the Bank of New South Wales, vice Mr. Webster on leave, r. In reply to an enquiry by a Dominion reporter, the Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) stated that the appointment of a successor to Lord Plunket, the retiring Governor, -had not yet been made.
The Dunedin Star learns on the best authority that Armstrong, captain of the Australian Eleven, is anxious to settle in New Zealand, provided he can get permanent employment. Here is a chance for Taranaki to secure a coach. The death is announced at Patea, at the age of 80, of Mr. G. Boagey, a popular resident of the town.
Mr. J. M. Hignett, for many years in the service of the Agricultural Department, and of late Inspector of Stock in I charge of the Stratford district, has resigned from the Government service to take charge of Mr. Newton King's land department at Stratford, in place of Mr. J. B. Richards, who vacates the position at the end of this month.— Post. A Press wire states' that the Prime Minister left Wellington for Lyttelton by last night's steamer. He will stay to-morrow night in Christchurck, and go to Port Chalmers on Wednesday «o meet His Excellency the Governor. Sir Jos'eph Ward will then accompany Lord Plunket on tour of Otago and Southland, returning to Wellington with the Governor on April 9th. . Dr. Monckton, one of the oldest surgeons at Feilding, dropped dead at his gate on Thursday afternoon, probably from heart disease. Deceased had been An army surgeon in England,, and came to New Zealand about thirty years ago. He lived at Invercargill, and whilst there leased the Auckland Islands from the Government and grazed sheep there. Afterwards he lived in Grevmouth, then came to Feilding, of which he was Mayor in 1889.
