Bates' 'summary and forecast are as follows: Showery and changeable weather "has prevailed on the east coast of the North Island, with strong south-easterly winds; fair weather and moderate winds have been experienced generally, but a south-easter-ly gale has prevailed in Taranaki today. The present indications are for moderate to strong south-easterly winds northward ol farewell Spit and KaiIsoura, and moderate northerly winds prevailing elsewhere. The barometer ■will "probably fall slowly in the south, and ris'e steadily in the north, with changeable weather generally, but fine predominating.
