ITK.APA FOOTBALL CLUB. j.llO iihiOrt'illg I t jj(Jrl. Will IMS SUUIU"- J ted to iiio annual meeung of Llie above ( club oil Thursday evening at 7.30. . 1 In presenting the sixteenth annual re; ■ ■port the Committee are pleased to be able to congratulate the members on a most successful season. i A reference to the balance-sheet will show that the club's li.na.nees are iU a , very satisfactory condition, the credit balance of £l9 being the largest in the history of the club. The members' subscriptions sliow a substantial increass [ on the previous year's figures, and the Committee confidently rely on the increase being maintained this seas'on. Though the club lost the services o£ c several of its prominent players to j. the Northern Union League, still It managed to retain its reputation on the field of play, the senior team De- j ing nmners-up to Stratford in the Nortle ru Division of the Taranaki t championship. while they also won the 7/ "Dan O'Brien" Challenge Shield. ane first junior team was not as strong j as in previous years, and no doubt promotions to the senior ranks were responsible for its low position in the cup championship. This team, however, was also su-<-esst'ul in winning the ''Carbine" Challenge Shield, presented by Mrs Da a * O'Brien, and with the benefit of last ( year's ■ voorience it is confidently ex- 1 peeled that t.liey will give a -better ac- ( count of themselves, in the cup contests this season. The third fifteen suffered ( through not being able to travel wrth J full teams. The Committee recognises thai players in this grade find it hard to meet the travelling expenses, aad nveiiMncticU that half their railway 1 fares should again be paid by the club. ! A team from the club also competed in and was' successful against all comers in winning the seven-a-side tournament in this town at the commencement of last reason. the prize money. £7 7s, being generously donated to the Recreation Snorts nronml Committee.
The club's' annual social was liol<3 on tic- i-vning of the Taranaki-Auckland representative ma toll, ami was undoubtedly a great success. During the eveni't": (he shields were presented to the w'nning teams, and a presentation of a handsome «old watch was als'o made t.o Ihe club captain, Mr Mynott, in recognition of the manner in which he had kept the team together during the season. The conduct of players both on and off the field has again left nothing to hp desired. Three members of the club, viz., TVTessrs Mvnott and J. and A. V. 'Ptoiir. were included in the Taranaki . rci>. team, and the first-named also declined nomination in the North Island team whilst the club was represented in the Junior rep. team against Wanganui by Messrs Loveridge and Fairbrother. During the season- death has removed several old and prominent members from our ranks, the late F. J. Stohr, John Stapleton and P. Jacob being among the number. The Committee urges' upon members the necessity of training 'hard and individually assisting to make this, season a record one for the Olub in every respect. Your Committee particularly desire to convey their thanks to the club's secretary and treasurer, Mr W. D. Webster, for the able manner in which he has carried out his duties. Tiie healthy position of the balance sheet bears eloquent testimony to his energy, and it is fitting that the club's appreciation of his efforts should he lex- * press'ed. In conclusion the Committee desire to thank the outgoing officers for their services during the season, the Refer- • pes' Association for the able manner in which it hai? controlled the games, the Press' for their continued support, a.nd the Ladies' Committee who worked so Indefatiga'bly towards making the annual social a success.
