Mr Allan Thompson, a resident of Kalgoorlie, has come to an arrangement! with Captain Scott to accompany Ue Antarctic expedition as geologist, ;lr Thompson was the nrst Rhodes Scholar who went to Oxford from New Zealand. He proceeds to Sydney to confer with Professor David, and afterwards goes to Neiv Zealand to join the Terranova. MESSAGE FROM CAPTAIN SCOTT. By Telegraph. —Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The 'Prime Minister has received a message from Captain Scott, acknowledging with thanks the vote of £IOOO towards the Antarctic expedition, MANSLAUGHTER TRIAL.

The trial of Dr Carlo Fiaschi and Nurs'e Young, charged with the manslaughter of a girl named Nightingale at Lithgow on January 10, was continued to-day. The Judge, directing the jury to discharge the two accused, said that in view of the second examination, which discovered the supposed missing organ, the Crown's case had utterly failed. Evidently a mistake had been madv The jury added to their verdict of "not guilty," a rider that there was no evidence that the operation was unskilfully performed by Dr Fraschi.. \
