The intar-State steamship companies from to-day return to the normal prestrike freights. VITAL .STATISTICS. Sydney, March 21. A preliminary report on the Vital statistics of New South Wales for 190U shows the population at the end of last year as 1,645,444, an increase of 40,535. Marriages numbered 13,048, or 8.03 pei' thousand, the highest recorded for 22 years. The births were 43.709, e> ■ 26.94 per thousand, and the deaths 9.75 per thousand, the lowest rate on record and 9 per cent, below the mean record of the past ten years. DERAILING A TRAIN. Sydney, March 21. In connection with the recent derailment of a train at Mount Victoria, some boys confessed to placing stones on the line. EARTHQUAKE IN VICTORIA. Melbourne, March 24. A severe earth tremor was experienced at Warragul. Pottery was thrown from shelves. The shock lasted several seconds.
