DISTRICT NEWS

« m* (From Our Own Correspondents.) I INGLEWOOD. Much interest is being centred in the approaching Presbyterian Church bazaar, and the ladies of the Sewing Guild are busy making and collecting material for the various stalls. It pro-' raises to be quite the largest of its kind held in the district for some time past. An afternoon was given on Tuesday last by one of the lady members interested, in aid of the fancy stall. There 1 (were seventeen ladies present, and each ; brought some suitable contribution to swell the incoming tide. On Wednesday afternoon, in the Presbyterian Church, a meeting of ladies was held in connection with the bazaar. There was ■' a considerable number ot ladies present and Mrs. Parli, president,of the Sewing Guild, presided. It was decided to hold it-he bazaar on the 21st and 22nd of next month in the Parish Hall. Mrs. Mcßetn has offered a first prize and Mrs. Ronaldson a second prize for a doll-dressing competition. The competition is open to ail and the prizes are to be awarded next Tuesday, one of the conditions be-1 ing that all exhibits are to be jpresente I! to the bazaar. Favored with line weather the affair should prove an entire success. Crushing and metalling operations are in full swing just now, and the most is being made of the fine weather to get the streets in good order for the winter WAITARA ROAD. We have had a fine mild summer, and grass is everywhere abundant. Should !' the autumn continue fine and mild the I milk supply at the factory and Kelly j road creamer}' will be <n record one in j the history of the company. Maize has been largely grown this year for autumn feed, but grass being plentiful a large quantity has been •made into ensilage. Messrs ,R. Moore. : J. and H. Purdie are all making ensi--1 lage as an experiment, and the result j of their operations will no doubt be watched by many in the district. The annual school and settlers' picnic takes place on Tuesday next, in Mr. Andrews' paddock, Huirangi, and, given I a fine day, there should ba a large I gathering. Touching on school matters, I think i : the district was very fortunate in pelting as a relieving teacher M". N. Day. He is well liked and popular with the scholars, and seems to be doing good work. Should Mr. Day apply as a permanent teacher for the Huirangi school, I trust that the Education Board and ! also the Commissioners will select him. In this I am voicing the opinion 01 several parents. The work of crushing metal for the Hawera county is still proceeding at Sentry Hill, a special train being re- , quired to take each day's crushing to its destination. What is H'awera's gain will' be this district's loss, for I am afraid that the contract will about clear the pits of payable metal. Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Turnbull, of Huirangi, returned from a month's trip to the Auckland district last Saturday, coming home by the Main Trunk line! Thev thoroughly enjoyed the trip, visiting almost every place of interest. NOTHING TO FEAR. Mothers need have no hesitation in siving Chamberlain's Cough Remedy to their littl" ones, as it contains absolutely no injurious drugs. This' medicine is not only perfectly safe to give to small children, but it is a medicine of great worth and merit. Sold by al! chemists and storekeepers. Worse that Football. The Easter Bagsrage Scramble.—Be wise.' Keep out of it. To do so, check your haegasre throuffh us—it costs no more. comfort of it!—well, try it and see. We collect the baggage, check by nail or sea, deliver promptly at vour destination. Not to cheek is to be behind the times—a lono- w av. So check, and .'heck earh-.—The N.Z.
