A COAL LEASE.
OBJECTION TO THE WESTPORT COAL COMPANY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Westport, Last Night. At a sitting of tiic Warden's Court today the application of the Westport Coal Company for the lease of what is generally known jus "Cook's coal leaße," which adjoins the company's Denniston property, was considered, an objection, being heard from Wilson, on behalf of WiisU'nra, of Akaroa, a member of a. syndicate formerly interested in the lease. The objection was made that the granting of the lease would give the IWostport Coal Com|>any a monopoly of first-class bituminous coal in the district. The Warden decided to recommend the Minister to grant the application, disbelieving it meant the creating of ft monopoly, and stating tliat there wna no guarantee if the application were refused that the money could otherwise be raised to develop the lease. Mr Dixon, superintendent of the W&n,port Coal Company, said his company could be producing coal from the lease in three weeks, as their present tramlines were now right on the boundary of the lease.
