AMERICA'S TARIFF.
NEGOTIATIONS WITH FRANCE AND. CANADA. By Cable. —Press Association. —Copyright Received March 15, 10 p.m. Washington, March 15. President Taft and Messrs. Knox and Pepper, three members of the Tariff Board, and Senators' Aldrieh and Cran are conferring in reference to the tariff negotiations. President Taft remarked' that there was little chance of reaching an agreement with Canada, but progress was being made towards a settlement with France whereby the latter would have an advantage of 25 per cent, reduction under the Payne tariff. TO AVOID A TARIFF WAR. CANADA MUST MAKE CONCESSIONS Received March 15, 10 p.m. London, March 13Advices 'from Toronto state that President Taft considers the Canadian treaty with France involves undue discrimination against America, and possible Sir Wilfrid Laurier must make concessions to avoid a tariff star.
