THE RUGBY GAME. WALES DEFEATS IRELASTD.. ■* By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright London, Mareh IR. At Dublin (Wales defeated Ireland by a dropped goal and five tries' to one '!! ... STAR CLUB'S ANNUAL REPORT.
The following is the committee's report to be presented, at the annual meeting of the Star Football Club tomorrow night: — In presenting the eighteenth annual report, the committee have to congratulate the members on the excellent financial position of the Club. Alter paydug all accounts for last season and some old accounts amounting to £8 lis 6d, the club have a credit balance of £l6 16s 3d. Reference to the balance-sheet will show that this position of affairs has been brought about mainly by the club having the use of the Recreation Sports Ground for its hbme matches, the gate receipts being considerably larger than in previous years. Members' subscriptions, both honorary and active, are also larger -than the 'preceding year, and the committee have to thank all members of the club for the loyal manner in which they have assisted in placing the club in such a sound financial position. On the field of play none of the team 3 •was successful in winning a championship. The club, however, have tne consolation of knowing that in nearly all the matches which were lost the margin of points was very small, and in some cases, had the results been reversed, the general opinion would have been than the better team had won. The club were unfortunate in losing the services of several players through accident, thereby spoiling the combination which is so essential to a team's success. At the seven-a-side tournament, held under the auspices of the Recreation Sports Ground Committee, the club's A team were runners-up and the players generously donated the prize-money to the promoters to assist them in building the new dressing-shed now erected on the ground. During the season the club' was represented in the senior rep. team by C. Brown and in the junior rep. team by F. Steele. Owing to their being so many similar functions, the committee decided not to hold the annual social, but trust that during the coming season the social will be a necessity owing at least to one of the teams winning a championship. The conduct of the players on and off the field was very satisfactory, and the members have gained an enviable reputation by the clean manner in which they have played the game. The attendance at the outdoor practises was very good, but the committee regret that more members did not avail themselves of the use of the building kindly lent them during the season by Mr. Whittle. The committee "wish to thank all those who assisted the club during the past season, and also the local press for their careful reports of all matches and other matters relative to football. In conclusion, the committee wish to impress upon the members thp treat necessity of getting into form in the early part of the season and by careful training to remain fit right through. They would also like each player to remember that it is only by working together and attaining combination that a team can hope to be successful.
