YESTERDAY'S GALE
DAMAGE IN NELSON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Nelson, Last Night. A heavy north-westerly gale with high spring tides caused the highest sea on the city foreshore for many years. The Port Road and part of Washington Valley were under water, and it is believed considerable damage has been done at the Port. Some boats are rescuing poultry and removing goods. The water washed over Halifax, near the centre of the city, right to the foot of the new post office. The heavy rain is how clearing, though the gale is still raging. The water is "two feet over the Wharf at Motueka.
