STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.

(From Our Resident Correspondent.) Stratford, Saturday. Last night, through a transformer failing, a portion oi Broadway was in darkness. There was a keen demand for candles, and as the shops had closed before the majority of those affected had discovered that "the ligut had failed," borrowing expeditions were the order of the night. At the Stratford Horticultural Society's show Norfolk road carried olf the public schools banner, beating Ngaere by four points. The Stratford High School came third. Advice has been received by the 'town clerk that Lord Plunket will visit Stratford during May, but that the visit will, owing to his time being limited, be a short one. A compliment has been paid the committee of the Stratiord High School by an enquiry from Dannevirke for particulars regarding the cost, etc., of the local school baths.

Consequent on their meeting clashing | with another institution's gathering, the j Stratford Football Club have postponed I their general meeting until Wednesday. I The amount of interest that was taken by the settlers of the Whangamomona County Council in the election of a lepresentative on the Stratford Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was | > evinced by the fact that not a single nomination was received.
