ATHLETICS.
A sports meeting promoted by the Hawer.i Amateur Athletic Club, is to be held at Hawera on Easter Saturday. As a number of amateur events have been included in the New Plymouth Caledonian Society's sports programme for E.iv.er Monday, there s'nould be a good response from amateur athletes ;'JI along the coast. There is every' probability of several of the "cracks" from, Wellington, Palmerston North, and Wanganui competing. Entr'cs for all running and cycling event 5 at the New Plymouth Caledonian' sports close on Saturday next. The meet'ng is expected to be one of the best 'ii the society's history, in so far as competition is concerned. Owing to the opposition of the Palmerston North sports, fewer •of the visiting* backmarker" are expected, and consequently loeai runners should nominate in greater numbers than usual. The Caledonian Society has been approached regarding making provision for wrest!nig events on its programme. T n view of the poor competition last year, however, it is felt tlie- funds of the 'Sd'eiet;'.should be conserved on this' occasion, unless those sports- wljo advocate field' events assist with 'donation!' to-' wards, the prize fund. The sfiweta-ry-Mf "flip society desires to acknowledge with, thanks cash donitions from Messrs. N. it. McDiarmid. A. McFurdv G. Tiseh. and -T. A. Tuthill. Tror>hl.'? hnvf "iso been received from Messrs. ,T. McKean (440 yds aniatejr race), .T. Bennett (ha'f-mile amateur race), J. Avery. Clarke Bros, and Sole Bro.s.
