The ».s. Pitoitoi is unable to get in here on account of there being no water in the river, and the entrance was completely blocked up with mud. A good downpour, of twenty-four hours would cle<in out the sand blocking the entrance. As the tides are rising now no doubt the Pitoitoi will get in on Wednesday. Prehistoric relics TbzTa(2 9hvnv'//
Writes "C.W.W.".—While Mr. C. Wragge may he considered something of a "prehistoric enthusiast," his description of ihe supposed "prehistoric temple" he discovered near the Bay of Islands, an account of which is given in your issue of the morning of the Bth inst., bears in some respects similarity to the characteristics of curiously ingrained •boulders I noticed recently near Kaimiro, Egmont road, which I am disinclined to consider as the result of "striated glaciation," or of the grinding of ancient glaciers, of a remote ice a«e. The indentations on the surface of the rocks being almost ton symmetrical and numerous, sonip of the anparetit stratifications and embossed fossilised figures on the face, of boulders, nether water erosion nor ice action could satisfactorily, it seems to me. explain, so thus it is difficult to he convinced that the extensive moraine of boulders from Mt. Etrmont on 'lie TTnner Albert road nr'srht not hide some prehistory story of an unknow:: and bygone people.
