A CHINAMAN'S SUICIDE. By Telegraph. —Press Associativa. Wellington, Last Night. Nang Zoo. aged 48 years, a Chinese market gardener from Nelson, hung himself this morning from, a tree at vaq j back of premises at No. 24 Haining! street. He had been staying with Joe I Queen, who last saw him alive at 111 o'clock on Tuesday night, when Nang ■ Zoo bade him good-night. He did not [ hear deceased get np during the night, j They were sleeping hi the same room. | and on going into his back yard at 5.30 this morning. Qucn saw Nang roo suspended by a rope from a tree four! feet from the ground. He severed tne ' rope, but life was extinct. Nang Zoo | had ben in ill-health for some time. ■ He came over from Nelson to bid j good-bye to one of his countrymen who | was leaving for China. He had been i twelve years in New Zealand. In Nang j Zoo's pockets were found pawn tickets. for £1 (for his watch) and three shil-1 linos and ninepence, and a return ticket > to Nelson. I Hamilton, March fl. I The dead body of a newly-born caild was found in a clump of fern at Waotu. It is supposed to be that of a servant girl, whose child was born on Friday; in a paddock of an adjoining farm,, where the girl worked. A post mortem examination proved that the child' lived. There are no apparent marks of) violence. An inquest is being held. | A SERIOUS JOKE. j Wanganui, March 9. A serious caste of "ragging" is veported to have occurred at the railway engine sheds at 3.30 on Tuesday morn-. ing. An engine cleanr named Anna-1 bell, a lad about 20, either went to sleep at work or during a spell and was cov-, cred with "waste" soaked in which was afterards set alight.
