»! ! j HEWBIT'S PICTURES.' i 1 The programme submitted by the new i management of Hewitt's Pictures at the i Theatre Royal last night was on a par ■ with the best that has ever been ais- • played to a New Plymouth audienec. ; It is difficult to select one picture and : place it above its fellows where all , were so good, but probably "Aviation s at Doncaster," showing various aeroplanes undergoing successful trials', and , giving the audience a very close view . of several of these marvellous modern s craft, was tlie most interesting. Another ! very fine film, and one that habitues of a, picture entertainment described as • the most complete and the most fasci- : nating, and the most touching dramatic I story that h«3 ever been told by the .' cinematograph in this town. It was en- ' titled "The Child of the Forest," and i told, amongst other things, of the un- . dying gratitude of a Red Indian mother | to the white "medicine man" who saved her sick child. Her chance to repay ) came when her little fellow was ten | years old, and she sent by him a mes'i sage to the paleface camp which enaoied i the emigrants to rescue one of their women who had been carried off captive by the Indians. A very pathetic scene was that in which the little Red Indian lad, upon appearing at the ennip on his errand of love and mercy, was shot down by the infuriated emigrants. At last, however, his message, stowed inside his' moccasin, was found. And there was joy ever after. This very fine film, which is rich in grand scenic effects, will be repeated to-night. There are also some side-splitting comics and the usual fine assortment.
