SWIMMING.
INGLEWOOD SPURTS. The swimming sports held at lnglewood baths on Thursday afternoon were most successful, and attracted a large attendance. The officials, under the leader ship of the secretary, Mr. J. Gibbs, were most energetic, and got the events off in good time. About fifteen swimmers went down from New Plymouth, and seven or eight from Stratford were also competing. During the afternoon Mr. J. Swanson, of the New Plymouth Club, gave an exhibition of fancy and graceful swimming. The following are the results:— 50yds Local Handicap)—J. Fowler (15sec) 1, D. Julian (15sec) 2, C. L. Members' Race (25yds')—H. Thomson (Bsec) 1, W. Matthews (Gsec) 2. Six started, five of them being veterans, as was shown by their partiality to beat the pistol. The liandicapper should be complimented on his good handicapping as the finish was mos'E and all seemed to have a small sprint left for the finish.
Relay Race—New Plymouth A (Bristol, Brown, Stohr and Preshaw) 1, New Plymouth B 2, Stratford 3. 'Won rather easily. Time, sGsec ( which was very fast. Bell Man's Buff.—This event caus'ed considerable amusement. Wilson finally caught the Bell Man (C. Brown), with Whittaker lying close handy. Intending competitors are reminded that nomination's for the New Plymouth Club's sports to be held at me Baths next Tuesday night close with the secretary, Mr. A. L. Dixon, at 8 o'clock to-night (Saturday). A number of entries' have been received from both Inglewood and Stratford. The 50yds Ladies' Bracelet seems to be retracting most cdmpetition.
