'WAIRARAPA FREEZING WORKS. By Telegraph.—Press' Association. Masterton. Last Night. The lender of Taylor and Hodges, of Masterton, of £18.071 for the erection of the buildings for the freezing works of the Wellington .Fanners' Meat Company has been accepted. The freezing works will be situated at Waingawa, about three miles from Masterton. "TRUTH" IX TROUBLE. Wellington, Friday. _ In the case of Ernest Louis Bertling v. John Norton, proprietor of the newspaper Truth, a claim for £2OOO i'or alleged libel concerning plaintiffs management of the municipal zoo, at Xewtown, application was made before the Chief .Justice this morning that the ease be heard before a special jury. The application was granted. MISHAP TO A DREDGE. Dunedin, Friday. The Enterprise dredge sank in the •centre of the Alexandra river at midnight. No one was on board at the time. The river rose last night to 13ft above the normal at the Alexandra bridge owing to the heavy rains. CLOSER SETTLEMENT. Ashburton, Friday. The Ruapunu estate, purchased by the Government, is 4423 acres in extent, and the price paid for it wis £30,807. Tt will be cut up into twenty •or more sections. i_ NOXIOUS WEEDS. Stratford, Friday. The Agricultural Department is Actively prosecuting; a campaign against noxious weeds.
