BURNED TO DEATH.
DEMENTED WOMAN'S MAD ACT. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Melbourne, March 4. The residence of Constable Day was destroyed by fire. Mrs. Day and her infant perished in the flames, and her two other children were badly burned. Received March 5, 1 a.m. Melbourne, Last Night. In connection with the burnrng fatality, it was discovered that Mrs. Day's throat was cut. The circumstances indicate that the woman, who had been in poor health, suddenly became demented, set fire to the house, cut her throat, and then dashed into the flames. The fire had been lit in each of the four rooms. A neighbor rescued two little boys who were found screaming near a bed which was on fire. The door was barricaded. He subsequently returned and endeavored to rescue the baby, but the flames beat him back.
