Received 2. 12.30 a.m. Melbourne, March 1. The steel mainmast of the cargo steamer Myra carried away when a ton ■of bullion was being hoisted from the hold. A number of laborers had a narrow escape from the wreckage. The accident was caused by the. forehead ,stav of the mast not being set up. FEDERAL ELECTION WRITS. Sydney, March 1. The writs for the Federal elections have been issued. AUSTRALIAN MEAT EXPORT TRADE. Sydney, March 1. The report of the special commissioner appointed to enquire into the meat export trade, after making a number of suggestions to improve the conditions, ""says: "Unless we can obtain supervision of every operation from slaughtering to ship's hold it is preferable for the Commonwealth to retrain from exercising any supervision and particularly to refrain from attaching any guarantee of condition."
