Torrential rains have been experienced in Paris for two days, and a heavy gale has been raging. So great has been the velocity of the wind that trees have been torn out of the ground. On the coasts terrible weather prevails. The River Seine is rising a foot each day. The vault at the Notre Dame (the cathedral at Paris), where sixteen archbishops are buried, is still inundated.
