The Victoria Racing "Club's autumn meeting opens to-day. New Zealandbred horses figure in several races, but the defection of B'obrikoff and Downfall robhs the gathering of considerable interest. WaittuKu figures in the hurdle races at the meeting; :Ngauruhoe and •eaton Dale in the Newmarket Handicap ; and Kerlie in the Esscndon Stakes. The Newmarket Handicap has drawn a vcrv satisfactory acceptance of thirtyone horses, the "Ranfurly horse Knox being at the top of the lis't with True fccot, both carrying 8.13. Pink TJn, who was handicapped at 9.5, was withdrawn. Queen o' Scots was favorite when the last mail left Sydney; Comely King, Ngauruhoe and Malt King being next in demand. Of the outsiders Flavinius Is likely to run a good race. Quite recently he won a six furlong race in Imln" 13% sec, and carried lOst 21b on the journey. Soultline won this race last year under 9st lllb—a weight record for the race.
The Seaton Delaval colt recently purchased by Dr. A. H. Bennett, of Adelaide, at the Auckland sales, died shortly after landing in Sbustralia. Perforation of the intestines was responsible for the youngster's early demise. "Parable, the winner of the Wood-
