SENSATIONAL SUICIDE.
FRAUDS INVOLVING £IOO,OOO DISCOVERED. SOLICITORS AND BANKS VICTIMISED. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright London. February 21. George Franklin, a Southampton builder, committed suicide at Holboi i public baths on Tuesday. Frauds involving £IOO,OOO have since been discovered. Nearly every s'olieitor and bank in Southampton is victimised. One bank lost £I6OO. Franklin sometimes raised money nine times upon the same land by means of bogus leases. He lost the proceeds of the frauds in speculation. Two or three solicitors' discovered thai they held duplicate deeds, and called a general meeting, which was attended by over fifty Hampshire, Dorsetshire and Wiltshire solicitors, who had bean similarly tricked. Franklin was highly respected and was a Justice of the Peace. HEAVY INDIVIDUAL LOSSES. Received 22, 9.30 p.m. London, February 22. One of Franklin's victims, a solicitor, .suffered to the extent of £20,000, and .others by £30,u00 and upwards.
