AMUSEMENTS.
HEWITT'S PICTURES. There was a fair attendance at the Theatre Royal last night when Hewitt's Picture Co., the popular local enterfirs, put on another complete change of programme. The pictures submitted were of the usual high standard maintained by Mr. Hewitt, and were much ■appreciated. The subjects were very well_ diversified, including educational, scenic, dramatic and humorous items. Where all the programme was of such high merit it is hard to specialise, but perhaps the picture that appealed most to the audience was a very dramatic one entitled "The Convict's Sacrifice." This described how a convict, on being released from gaol, was 'befriended by a laborer and his daughter. Soon after, wards, however, he was again taken, but managed to escape. After a sensational chase he reached the homo of his friend, whom he found almost destitute. He compelled the man to give him up. and thus secure the reward offered.
