FIRE BRIGADES' CONFERENCE

At the annual eoi-ierence of the New •Zealand Fire Brigade Association, it was resolved to again hold a prize essny compctition on matters relating to live brigade work. A committee was set up to consi lev • the whole question of delegates' faros and other expenses connected with conferences and dmonstrations. The conference unanimously accepted th- explanation regarding the action of the Wanganui Fire Brigade in presenting a gold star to a member some months before it was due. The conference adjourned till to-morrow. ACCIDENT ASSURANCE. A meeting of the Fire Brigades Accident Assurance Society was held at Hastings to-day. The executive's report stated that in spite of numerous accident claims made and paid during Hie past year, there was a satisfactory credit balance. The report recommended that rebates for the ensuing year be. as follows:—Brigades not having drawn in benefits fifty per cent, of their total •contributions receive twenty-five nor cent, rebate; over fifty per cent., ten per cent, rebate; seventy-five per cent.,] no rebate. After careful consideration of the question of sick benefits the executive were of opinion that ample provision now existed with friendly socio ties, and any such scheme woltul be altogether outside the object of the Society. They therefore strongly recommended that no alteration be made. Five brigades were admitted during t>e year. The roll number of members now was 1518. or an increase of 85 for the year. The total revenue for the ysar ;vas £248 4s Gd, and payments for accidents £14(1 10s, leaving a credit to th? accident fund of C 1524 0s Id. T]ie executive recommended that a committee be set up to report to the conference on the matter of including brigades working under fire boards in the Accident Society, and to include the visit under the Workers' Compensation Act. A committee was set up accordingly, and the meeting adjourned till to-nior-row.
