MINERAL CONCESSIONS

STUPENDOUS TRANSACTIONS.

By Cable.—Pre6s Association. —Copyright Received February 21, 9.30 p.m. Washington, February 21. Evidence given before the committee of the United States Congress inquiring into the Alaskan mineral concessions, shows the Pierpont Morgan and Senator Guggenheim ?ywlieate had arranged to buy half the Cunningham coal claims for £50,000. Air. Birch, the syndicate manager, informed the committee that the Cunningham mines would yield 50 million tons and the profit be £5,000,000. The entire district would yield 500 million tons, of a net value of £.40,000,000. Under the present land laws the whole would have passed into private pockets, unless President Roosevelt had withdrawn the Alaskan lands pending legislation.
