COUNTY OF TARANAKI.

The Audit Office having examined the Balance-sheet and accompanying Accounts prepared as m accordance with the provisions of "The Counties Act, 1908," hereby certifies to the correctness thereof, subject to the following exceptions:— 1. The sum of £620, arrears of special rates made over only a portion of the district, for payment of interest on the Eltham Road Loan has unlawfully he?n charged to the General Account. ■>■ 2. The payments of £4 19s. 6d. "Interest on Purchase- money Woods' Estate" and £l3 Bs. "Deputation Expenses, Wellington" are without authority of law and are therefore disallowed. 3. The special rate which was made and which it was necessary to levy to secure the loan of £702 14s. lid. for works over a portion of the district only, ■'mini bered 1 in the Interest Account, was not colle«ted, and the payment of the interest has unlawfully been charged to the General Account. 4. The transfer from the General Account to Interest Account. No. 3 is without authority of law in so far as it exceeds the amount required by the sum of £53 10s. fid. 5. Special rates amounting to £l4 lfis. 3d., collected for and applicable only to the payment of interest on loan, have unlawfully been used for other purposes. J. K.
