AN AMBUSH.
FRENCH DETACHMENT MASSACRED By Cable.—Press Association. —Copyright Tangier, February 17. Details from Abeshr, a town with a population of 500,000, in the Wadai district, in the north-east of Africa, showthat 110 native soldiers, a European captain, two lieutenants and two sergeants have been massacred, and that eight natives escaped. It seems that a column was ambushed in a ravine. Anxiety is felt owing to France having in the country only 500 troops, who are scattered in the Wadai district.
