POLLARD'S OPERA COMPANY. Playgoers will be glad to learn that this ever-welcome combination is about to visit New Plymouth once more. Mr. Fred W. Duval, the touring manager of the company, who has' been associated with the Pollards since they first visited New Zealand in 1881, has arrived to make the preliminary arrangements. Since last seen here Mr. Pollard has dropped the word "juvenile," and has been building his company up to opera standard by adding male voices and new artists. Among the latter is a new English baritone, Mr. Wilfrid Hilary; a character actor, Mr. A. S. McKay; and Mis's Edyth Collins, a soubrette and dancer. The season here will commence on Thursday next, February \ 24th, and will be limited to three nights. I The initial attraction will be the world's greatest musical comedy success "Miss I Hook of Holland.'' This much-boomed | work has been purchased at enormous [ expense from the firm of Sir Rupert j Clarke, Meynell and Gunn, of the 'f heI atre Royal, Melbourne, and it will b» I staged here with all the original quaint j scenery, gorgeous costumes, and wonderIful properties and effects. A feature of the production will be that every character in the caste will be played by adults. On Friday the attraction will be the new operatic extravaganza, "The j Belle of Cuba." This merry work has been creating quite a furore in the [ southern cities, the universal verdict bej ing that it was the best thing the Pollards had ever done.
