CORN AND GREEN CROPS. DEPARTMENT'S ESTDUTES. The following is the Agricultural Department's estimate of the area under certain crops and the conditions of the crops on January 10. 1910: Wheat (area for threshing)--10(M-10, 311,000 acres'; 11)08-1), 252,391 acres; increase. 58,000 acres. Oats (area for threshing) —1909-10, 377,000 acres; 1008-9, 400,008 acres; decrease. 20.008 acres. Barley (area for threshing)—l9oo-10, 41,500 acres; 1908-9. 45,8,j8 acres; decrease, 7353 acres. Ryegrass (area for sewl) 1909-10, 50,550 acres; 1908-9, 50,120 acres; increase, 0424 acres'. Cocksfoot (area for seed) 20,500 acres; 190S-0, 32,705 acres; decrease, 3205 acres. Potatoes 1908-9, 29,919 acres; increase, SSI acres. • Turnips 1908-9, 530,030- acres; decrease, 8080 acres, iiape—rJU'.i-iu, ■j.zoydii acres; jwa-s/, 220.240 acres; increase, 4795 acres. There is a large increase in the area of peas in Marlborough, and of maize in Auckland and Taranaki. TARANAKI.
