Glenn, Suckling, Captain Norbury, Rev. Fa veil, and 11 steerage. THE ROSAMOND. The Rosamond left Wellington at 1 p.m. yesterday for Xew Plymouth, via Pieton and Nelson. She is due here tomorrow, and will have about 170 tons of general cargo for this port. THE KAIKOURA. The Kaikoura is at present loading in the Waitara roadstead. She is expected to complete to-morrow. BIG SHIPBUILDING. ■ There has been a' temporary lull in the production of very big ships, and for the very good reason that the bulk of the Atlantic lines are sufficiently stocked (remarks a London authority). Anyhow, there is no mention in the annual report of Lloyd's Register for 1908!) of any leviathans like the Mauretania or the Rotterdam being classed . 100 Al. The biggest steamer so dealt with during that year was the Chiyo Maru, of 13.420 tons, built in Japan /for the Tokyo Kisen Kaisha, and supplied with turbine machinery from this country. Next in order came iour of the new Orient liners, each somewhat in excess of 12,000 tons, and the three Peninsula and Oriental steamers of the "M" class, each of just under 11,000 tons. Not a single big liner for the North Atlantic trade is included in the list. For the; current year there are mentioned by Lloyd's Register as being due for classification the fifth new liner for the Orient Company, two 13,000-ton mailboats fo r the Union-Castle Company, and the steamship which the Cunard Company are building as a successor to the Slavonia. It is, however, now definitely known that the Cunard Company proposes to construct another b ; g Atlantic mail steamer to replace the Lucama. By far the biggest ships looming ahead are, of course, the Olymwc and Titanic, which are toeing constructed bv Messrs Harland and Wolff for the White Star Line. With the failing oil in shipbuilding production there lias naturally been less classification worn for Lloyd's Register. The new ships so dealt with in 1908-9 represented a ton,na<re of 854,984, as against 1,151,791 tons in 1907-8 and 1.484,722 in 1900-7. The slump in shipbuilding has, it will be seen, steadily progressed, but it may be announced with some confidence that the corner has at length bean turned. OVERSEA VESSELS TO ARRIVE AT WELLINGTON.
