PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The usual monthly meeting of the Pari'haka Koad Board was held on Wednesday. There were present: .Messrs. Young (chairman). Harvey, and Willcox. Mr. Willeox decided to hold over the motion of which he had given notice re the working stali', owing to the absence of half the members,' an absence thai -bowed great lack of interest. Mr. Lysaght asked for culvert and road repairs on Upper Parihaka road. —Xo funds. On the recommendation of the foreman it was decided to repair the portion of Ptuigarehu road complained of by Messrs. Moll'itt and (ioodwin at a cost not exceeding £4."). Mr. Cross offered 1- per chain towards the cost of clearing a drain along his frontage. —No funds at present. The Board agreed to allow Mr. Fleming half the cost of clearing a drain on Cape road.
The Board decided that the stall' should do 12 chains on the I'ayley road when time permitted.
I Mr. Aylward asked to have a drain I cleaned on Burge-.-' road. The foreman i was instructed to inspect the locality I and do work if it was required. ! Mr. Jones drew attention to the conI dition of the Warea road bridge. The ' foreman said he had inspected it and ! found that it was not really dangerous. i Mr. McNeil asked the Board to clear ! a drain on Opua road, and offered to j pay half the cost. The Board concluded 1 it could not do it at present. ; The following tenders were received ' for contract. 71, Arawhafa road metal- ' ling: Magon £5 2s fid per chain, Maciie £4 15s, Wells £4 16s, Hill and Young £4 accepted), Rothery £5 12s, Taylor £4 4s; estimate £4. Contract ■' No. 72, Opua road metalling: Magon |£4 2s 6d, Wells £2 10s, Rothery £4 7s, Taylor £2 9s (accepted); estimate. ■ £2 10s.
Messrs. Hughson, Groom, and Fielder waited on the Board to ask for the deepening of a drain along Gregory road near the Masonic Hall to clear the water from their property. The foreman was directed to inspect the locality and to report on the matter.
The Board voted the clerk a bonus of £lO in recognition of his services and extra work in connection with raising loans. The foreman and Mr. Willeox were directed to inspect Rahotu road and Lower Kahui road and report to the next meeting.
It was decided to call tenders, returnable at the next meeting, for another contract on the Kaweora road deviation.
The Treasury advised that the Newall • road 10 per cent, loan bad been paid to the Board's credit.
Accounts amounting to £253 were passed for pavment.
