TREMORS RECORDED IN AUSTRALIA. By Cable.—Press Association.--Copyright Sydney, FebVuary 12. During the past week the seismograph at the observatory registered several important earth tremors. The severest were experienced on the fourth and fifth instants. EARTHQUAKE IN THE SOUTH SEAS. By Telegraph.—Press' Association Auckland, Last Night.
Thy steamer Katango, ivhit-li arrived yesterday, reports that the Savaai volcano at"Samoa has been unusually active of late. A severe earthquake was felt in the. at the end of January. The seismograph in llulinuu, Samoa, has registered several severe earthquake shocks lately, the whole of them being within a few miles of the group. On Wednesday. 10th nit., a violent eruption occurred, which lasted for the, space of about GO minutes. The centre of the shock was probably in the Solomons.
