The barque Petirhyu Castle, lying down the bay, is on fire. Siie arrived from London during the week, and had fortunately completed the discharge of 2000 jiackagcs of powder yesterday. No. 4 hold is burning -fiercely.

The fire on the barque Penrhyil Castle has been subdued. A large quantity of general cargo was damaged.

The fii'e started in the forehold' anion;,' a quantity of pottery and other cargo loosely packed. The straw quickly gained such headway that it was decided to tow the Penrhyn Castle to Ro.<i> Bay and beach her. A steamer started to tow her. In the meantime holes were cut in the decks. The fire float Pluvius arrived and <o effectively poured in water that by the time the tow reacfled Shark Inland the fire was taeeiced. The barque tkr-n anchored. and tile firemen soon master vl the outbreak.

A large quantity of wat.-r was in the holds. The full extent of the damage bv fire and water will not lie known until the vessel is pumped out and the damaged cargo discharged. EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE. Received February 11, 11.40 p.m. Sydney, February 11. The Penrhyn's damage was chiefly confined to 'tween decks and the lower hold. Much of the cargo was saturated. There is two feet of water in the hold.
