Professor Gregory, late of Melbourne University, read a paper at the Geographical Society on the geopraphical conditions .controlling Australia's development. His conviction was that there was no region in tropical Australia which Europeans could not colonise. It would be possible to tell in twenty years whether the colonisation of tropical, territory by whites was practicable within ?k reasonable time. If aotj colored races might be admitted under stringent regulations, confining them to this area.
