RIFLE SHOOTING.
TARANAKI ASSOCIATION MEETING.
A meeting of the council of the Taranaki Rifle Association was held last night, Lieutenant-Colonel Okey presiding.
Upon the question of appointment oi range-officers coming up, a suggestion was made that rifle clubs should be represented, but Mr. Speck explained that most of the club's office-bearers were shooting men, who would be engaged in the matches, and thus ineligible. It was decided to ask Captain Kimbell, Lieut. Turner, and Lieutenant Messenger to act as range officers, and to invite Captain Clarke and Lieut. Percival to relieve for one day. The rifle range trustees will be asked to fix the flagstaff, and the Association will provide the necessary flags. Staff-Sergeant-Major Sanderson, the hon. secretary, was instructed to procure three windage flags, and to nave targets and other details attended to. Captain Mills was' appointed to act as secretary in the absence of SergeantMajor Sanderson. It was decided that match rifles be barred.
Some discussion took place in reference to the system of shooting. A motion was brought forward to adopt the system of one man one target, but an amendment was carried to adhere to last year's 1 , system of two men to each target, with a time limit of l(i minutes. Major Sandford thanked the Association for the use of the range, and for assistance given in the recent cadet matches.
Major Sandford gave notice to move that in future programmes the competition be confined to the Taranaki district. , ,i
