PREPARATIONS FOR RESTARTING WORK. Received February 8, I a.m. Sydney, February 7. The action of the western delegates in voting against the southern proposal for the resumption of work came as a surprise. It was generally anticipated that they intended to support the proposal. Horses have been brought in from paddocks in the W.oollongong district in readiness for the resumption of work in the various mines. The Newcastle miners' delegate board meeting to-morrow is expected to arrive at a decision which will have an important bearing on the settlement of the strike. MEETING OF THE STRIKE COUNCIL. A BALLOT TO BE TAKEN. WAGES BOARD OR OPEN CONFERENCE. Received February 7, 10.30 p.m. Sydney, February 7. The Amalgamated Strike Council had a protracted discussion to-day. It dealt with two resolutions. The first, moved by Dunleavy and seconded by Waugli, the southern miners'' representatives, was in favor of the northern miners resuming work on the 14th inst. This was lost by 3 votes to 2, both the northern representative and 'the western voting against the motion. The second resolution, moved bv Peters and seconded by Allison, northern representatives, was' to the effect that the northern district be asked to ballot upon the acceptance of a wages board or an open conference, simultaneously with the resumption of Avork. The result will be »ot later than Saturday night next, and, i n the event of the wages board being adopted, resumption of work will take place both at the northern and southern, districts as soon as possible. This was carried by 3 to 2, the northern and western representatives supporting and the southern representatives opposing.
