EDUCATIONAL.
A FAULT-FINDING BOARD. linvercargill, Saturday. At a meeting of the Education Board yesterday, Mr. J. C. Thompson, M.P., Vnoved that the Board take no action in regard to the resolution of the Otago Board protesting against the consistent ignoring of the Board and exclusion of tt>' members from conferences such as 'that about to be held in Wellington. ! Sir. Thomson's motion also contained •an expression of disapproval of the *Otago resolution. 1-1 e n<: ntioned that I the Otago Board It.'! iicquently raised difficulties in re- :\l to educational matters, and he argued that Boards were not competent to advise on matters on which the inspectors were asked to give an opinion. They were of a purely technical nature. He did not feiiow that the Department had ever ignored the Southland Board. Mr. W. McAlister seconded and supported the ".notion. The conference was evidently tone for experts. Mr. Gilchrist considered the Otago Board altogether too fault-finding. Mr. Fisher characterised 'the Otago Board as being something in the nature of a Scotcli terrier, always ■worrying somebody about something. Mr. Crosby Smith jocosely stated that •while the Otago Board fiercely opposed centralisation, it appeared to want to liave the Educational Department made the Otago Education Board. Education 'boards, he said, had recently been much in recognition in respect to advisory boards connected with training colleges. The motion was unanimously carried.
