A bottle was picked up on Newport Beach, near Broken Bay (close to Sydney Heads), containing an ill-spelled, clumsily scrawled message, alleged i'o have been written by a man on the Vara tali, announcing that the vl'sm< was slowly drifting south to Victo -ia Land and that she had lost her rudder and propeller. The police authorities attach no credence to it. Melbourne, February 5. - A bottle was picked up on the beach near Sale, containing a message alleged to liave been thrown overboard ■while the Waratah was sinking fast in latitude 43 east longitude 130 degrees south. It is signed J. Milburne, bin there is no such passenger's name on the list. There was a XV. Millburne on board, but he landed at Durban.
