SERIOUS RAILWAY ACCIDENT.
' AT XEW PLYMOUTH STATION. / A serious accident occurred at the Xew riymouth railway station on Saturday morning just before the departure of the .eleven o'clock goods train, result of which the train examiner, E. E. Tromont, recently of Hawera, was injured. Fromont was at the back of the goods train examining axles. A shunter brought along a van to be attached to the train, but did not notice Fromont there. Neither did he see the van coming. The impact started th'J train moving 'backwards. Fromont was thrown partly across the rails, and one of the wheels struck him on the thi*!i, pinning him down, and dragging him several feet before it could be checked. Medical aid was summoned, and in the meantime the end of the van was raised by means of a jack and the man extricated. Temporary bandages were applied to the wound in the thigh, ponding the arrival of the doctors. T)r. Leatham was quickly on the scene, Dr. Walker and Xurse Boscawen arriving shortly afterwards. Examination revoked a severe lacerated wound on che groin, and a compound fracture of the foot, with serious shock to the system and vcvv great loss of blood. Fromont was stationed here for a term a« a shunter, and recently returned here in the capacity of train examiner. He is a married man.
