FATALITY AT SENTRY HILL.
MAX CIU'SIIKD IXDER A DRAY. A man na ed Thomas Burko, an employee of .1. C. Monteliore at Sentry Hill, was brought to the hospital on Wednesday evening suffering from injuries received in an accident whilst carting stone out of the Waiongona river. His injuries were seen to l»e so serious that little hope was entertained of hi- nv.overy. A consultation of doctors was held yesterday afternoon, and if was felt tint there was only one hope, and that a desperate one. All operation was performed accordingly, but the p:i(ie!)t gradually sank, dying early in the evening. linrke was employed by Mr. Monteliore as a driver on the drays engaged in hauling steiie out of the river. His dray had just" been loaded, but he had neglected to insert the pin which prevented the dray from tipping. The horses started forward, with the inevitable result that the dray tipped backward. Burke was thrown off, and the dray still going on pass'ed over the lower portion of his body. At first it was thought he was not very seriously injured. When it was seen that he was in pain, an:, igements were made for bringing the injured man to the 'hospital. The afternoon train was intercepted, and the man placed on board. Burke was an Australian, believed to belong to Ballarat. and to have a wife living there, lie was 33 years' of age.
