PERSONAL.

Mr. F. Fagan was a passenger to Auckland per s'.s. Rarawa last night. Mr. W. T. Jennings, M.P-, was a passenger to New Plymouth from Wanganui yesterday. Captain Newton, the new harbormaster, arrived from Auckland by the Rarawa yesterday, and will take up his 'duties as from to-day. Mr. J. W. Winfield, in response to a uetition of seventy ratepayers, has consented to allow himself to he nominated for the mayoralty of Inglewood. Bishop Grmies left Christchurch for Temuka on Saturday, having received information that the condition of Father Le Menant des Chesnais was precarious. The Prime Minister (Sir J. G. Ward) leaves Wellington on Wednesday for the south, and will take a holiday of a week or ten days before meeting Lord Kitchener, who arrives at Bluff on •H.M.S. Encounter on February 17th. Mr. Poynton, Public Trustee, has been appointed superintendent of the State Guaranteed Advances Department. Dr. Fitchett, Solicitor-General, succeeds Mr. Poynton as Public Trustee, and is in turn succeeded by Professor Salmond, <who will also control the Law Draughting Department as before. Mr. P. Corliss has been appointed Commissioner of Stamps in succession to Mr. Hicks'on, Mr. Morris, of the post office, who temporarily filled that position, having resigned. The appointments date from toflay. ' " The Rev. H. S. Woollcombe, travelling secretary for the Church of England Men's Society, who is conducting a three years' mission to men throughout the 'Empire, is due in New Plymouth on the 17th inst. He conducts' services at 11 a.m., 3.15 and 8 p.m. on the 18th, the 6 o'clock service being a public one and will take place in the Theatre Royal. His other Taranaki appointments are: Inglewood 19th, Waitara 21st, and Stratford 23rd. Mr. Woollcombe is one of the most able and forceful speakers that has left the shores of England, and his Visit will no doubt be looked forward to "with considerable interest by all Sections of the public.
