"E. A. SMITH."
MORE AHOI'T THE firm. By Cable. — Tress Association.—Copyright Dimcdin, Last Night. • Mr. Yon ITaasl, a member of the Sen. •ate of the New Zealand University, gave ■a Dailv Tim: s reporter some information with reference to "E. A. Smith." "It seems to lie generally assumed in the discussion on this subject," he said,, •'that K. A. Smith never existed in the •flesh, but that the name was used only ■as a blind to conceal the identity of •Mr. Edward Kennaway and his relationship to the secretary to the High Commissioner. This was not the ease. I knew 'Mr. E. A. Smith well myself before Mr. Edward Kennaway joined the .firm. Mr. Smith .originally had the shipping business alone. Later he was -joined by Mr. Kennaway, and when Mr. ►Smith retired, on account of old age .and ill-health, Mr. Kennaway continued' the business under the original name of life firm." . .»'•,*!
