FIRES.
NATIVE SCHOOL DESTROYED. By Telegraph. —Press' Association. Whangape, January 27. The Native School, built six months ago, was destroyed by fire last night. Incendiarism is suspected. OUTBREAKS IN WELLINGTON Wellington, Last Night. A fire occurred this morning in Hopper Street, in promises occupied by Hanson (plumber) and C. and A. Odlin (timber and hardware merchants) as a stable. It. had a strong hold when the brigade arrived. Four 'valuable draught horses perished. The building was gutted and a dray damaged beyond repair. A quantity of harness was also destroyed. The horses were worth over £l2O. Hanson's shop, including tools, was absolutely burnt. The contents were uninsured, as were Odlin's downstairs. The building ■was the property of Odlin, and was insured in the Alliance for £IOO. Hanson's loss is estimated at '£23o. A fire also broke out in a six-roomed hous'r in Newtown, owned and occupied by .Tames Saunders. Severe damage was suffered in the kitchen, scullery, bathroom and dining-room. The front portion was affected by heat, smoke and water. The house was insured for £4OO and the furniture for £230.
