Referring to the Wellington Cup a writer in an exchange says: A point of peculiar interest is that no fewer than ten days ago a well-known North Island sport offered ,£750 for Crucinella, hut that the owner refused, demanding £IOOO. This the buyer was not prepared to give andS bargaining lapsed. A good deal is being heard just no:v about the amounts won hv various people over Crueinella's win irt the Wellington Ctlp. A correspondent of the Patea Press, for instance, gives details of •various sums won bv Wnverley and s:'"< it is c-ndentlv asserted 'he' in betting, alone Waverley benefited bv over £IOOO, and .'that not one tale of loss is reported—all aopear to have won. If the tales of losses were reported in connection with different .horse races perhaps there would not be ■such a general disposition amongst the public to endeavor to get rich quickly—at somebody else's expense.
