EDUCATION BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. At the usual monthly meeting of the Taranaki Education Board there were present: Messrs. James Wade (presiding), A. Morton, W. Kennedy, W. Roger?, 11. Trimble, J. Young and G. A. Adla.ni. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT. The chairman reported appointments made since last meeting: —Waitara, assistant, Mr. F. W. Moore; Stratford, assistant (secondary department), Mrs. E. Geddes; Toko, assistant, Miss Grace Coleman. Temporary appointments': Okoke, Miss M. H. McDonald; Piko, Miss I!. Weston; lluirangi, Mr. N. Day; Oeo, Mrs. Brereton; Egmont Village, assistant, Mr. 11. C. Fenton; Tuna, Miss M. Blake. Pupil teachers as previously published. The foreman had been instructed to effect repairs at Waitara, Stratford, York and Hillsborough. FINANCE COMMITTEE. The Finance Committee recommended: That, tenders be called for additions to Waitara school; that the matter of alterations, and additions to the Hillsborough school be left in the hands of the cludfenan with full power to act, the cost of the additions to be kept within the amount of the grant of the Department; that the sum of £4 be paid to the Korito committee for work authorised by the Board; that in reply to the letter of the Bird committee in reference to the latrines, the committee 'be asfceiuf they will do the work, and if so, which system they will adopt; that the Awatuna committee be informed that as' the Board is expecting that the additions to the school will shortly be authorised, the matter of a new out-ofTletf-tfill then be considered; that £2 he granted to the Tongaporutu committee for clearing scrub, etc., off the school ground; that Mr. Kennedy be requested to -supervise the completion of the lining of the Marco school, and authorised to have necessary repairs effected. MISCELLANEOUS. ' The Purangi committee again applied for a full-time school, the attendance warranting the engagement of a teacher with a salary of £.120 and £ls lious'e allowance. —Held over, pending a reply from the Matau Committee. Tli« Department wrote agreeing to grant >£l3 a year for the hire of a building to be used for school purposes at Oeo.

The Huirangi committee asked the Board to call for fresh applications for the position of sole teacher, considering the school of sufficient importance to warrant a certificated teacher being placed in charge.—The position will be re-advertised.

Messrs'. Morton and Trimble were appointed a committee to inquire into tlie complaints made by the school committee against the teacher at Raupuha, and to report to the Board. Miss M. Hutcheson was granted two months' leave of absence from her duties at the Midhirst school.

Miss B. Hoby's resignation as pupil teacher "In - tlie Central School was accepted.

The Inglewood committee applied the appointment of a pupil teacher and a probationer. The Board was asked also if it would arrange for the erection of a school bell in a turret on -the roof if the committee provides the bell,—The requested appointments were referred to the chairman with power to act. The Finance Committee will report upon the matter of the bell and turret.
