Wellington is now being dismantled at Quay street jetty. Her engines will be Temoved, and her hull utilised as a store ship. The Wellington, <wTtli Tier yacht-like lines, has the reputation of being the prettiest steamer ,jet seen in colonial waters (says the Auckland Herald). She was built in Glasgow in 1863, for the New Zealand Steam Navigation Company, which at that time Hau its head office at Welling, ton. On arrival from Glasgow the Wellington was piaced in the trade between ,the Manukau and Dunedin, calling at .Taranaki, Nelson, Wellington and Lyttelton. In this running she continued until tlie advent of the Union Steamship Company, who ran in opposition to the ,old company, and eventually purchased the Wellington and employed her in the Auckland-\Y hangarei and Russell an:t ,Tauranga trade until 1881, when she was sold to the Northern Steamship Company. Tie latter company kept tiu .Wellington running til about folur years ago, when her services were no longer .required, and she was laid up in "Rotten Eorrf after 42 years' continuous employment. Her present owner is Mr. G. T. Niccol. who recently purchased the old steamer from the Northern Steamship Company. Captain W. Farquahar, now on the retired list of the Northern Company, commanded the Wellington •from ISBI till ISBS, when he was succeeded Tiy Captain E. Stephenson, now of the Ngaouhi, who continued in command until a few'years ago before the vessel was laid up, Captain T. Haultain, now of the Aupori, succeeding him.
