DISASTROUS FIRE
AT WANfIANUI. THE RUTLAND DESTROYED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wnnganui, Last Night. A serious fire occurred just before midnight on Saturday. An assistant wis working in tTie shop of Mr. Davis, jeweller, in the Rutland Hotel buildings, when the gas failed. Ill' lit a match, •with the result that a terrific explosion | occurred. How the man got out of t!ie •building is a mystery. The explosion was followed by fire, the flames rushing with remarkable rapidity into the Rutland Hotel, and in n Jew minutes the upper stork's of the hotel were blazinv fiercely. One small wing was uninjured. but the rcniaind.T of the building was ruined by fire and .writer. , .
