Charles Burney, vvliu appeared at the Police Court yesterday morning charged with forgery, and who was remanded till January :26th, escaped from custody when being taken to Lyttelton this afternoon. Burney was placed on the Lyctelton train in ciiarge oi a constable, ueiore uie train im the station, however, he suddenly bolted from the carriage and ran through th e train, and eventually jumped otf on the sou thorn side. He was last seen making his way towards Sydenham RE-CAPTURED. Christchurch, Last Night. Burney, 'ulio escaped from custody yesterday, was re-captured by Detective Ward' and Constable Phillips iast night. Detective Ward and Detective Gibson •were walking along Madras street about IQ.JS p.m. whon they noticed a man resembling Burney in front of them. Detective Ward went to have a look, but Burney saw him approaching, and ma le off along Tuiyn street, which intersects. Detective Ward chased him, and culled out to him to stop or else he would tir:>. Burney disregarded the warning and th P detective discharged a couple of shots without ell'i'ct. At the intersection of Manchester street, two coistnbles joined in the chase, and lie was eventually captured in St. Asaph street. \
